Our
Philosophy:

We believe our Confirmation program is unlike any other in the Fresno Diocese.

Through our group teaching style, retreats, service days, day retreats, peer leadership, and other programming components, our program enables our students to make the educated decision to accept the Sacred Sacrament of Confirmation.

Becoming an adult in the Church is important because it requires taking ownership of one’s faith, something we do not take lightly.

We believe it is crucial to understand not only the history and traditions of the church but also the center of it, Christ Jesus.

And that it is through Christ that we were given the gift of the Holy Spirit, meant for all of God’s children and intended to be accepted through this very Sacrament.

Though Catholic doctrine and traditions are important in the Faith, the belief in, and relationship with Jesus Christ is number one in our teaching.

High School Ministry

The Newman Center High School Ministry offers a weekly youth group, weekly bible study, stewardship opportunities and a two-year Confirmation program for all teenage students wanting to complete the Sacrament of Confirmation. The High School Ministry seeks to strengthen each students understanding of faith and how our relationship with our Lord can guide and lead us all through the everyday trials and triumphs of our lives. Jesus Christ is relevant in today’s society, to people of all ages and socioeconomic groups. Christ has no boundaries, this is our message we seek to convey in a manner that speaks to the youth of our community.

Jr. High Ministry
Our Jr. High program meets weekly on Tuesday evenings during our Faith, Family, and Friends faith formation program. Joe Pulido is the Jr. High Minister.More specific information on the youth ministry program can be found on the bulletin board in the main church lobby or by contacting Tina teNyenhuis, Director of High School Ministries at 559-436-3448 or tina@csufnewman.com

Confirmation
Our Confirmation program is a two-year process that begins sometime in the fall of the candidates first year, and ends the spring of their second year. A confirmation year usually runs from late August -late March/early April, depending on the date of the Confirmation ceremony for that year. This gap gives the candidate’s time away from the program allowing for personal growth and maturity, as well as giving them a break from possible church overload. Classes meet every other Sunday evening from 4:30pm-6:45pm, making meetings only twice a month. Each class, 1st year & 2nd year, are lead by two different teaching teams consisting of volunteer adults and young adults. The variety in teaching staff helps us to relate to more students on a number of different levels. Requirements within the program include mandatory attendance to class sessions and our weekend retreats, (one each year) and taking part in our group service days as well as earning individual service hours. If you’d like to register for the program please contact Tina teNyenhuis, Director of High School Ministries; 559-436-3448 or tina@csufnewman.com
