Liturgical Ministry
A variety of liturgical ministries are utilized at our weekend Masses.
Music
Music is an essential part of Catholic worship. The Newman Center invites musicians and singers to participate in one of the 4 music groups that cover Masses on weekends. Organ and cantor provide music at the Saturday 5 PM Mass. Sunday, 7:30 AM Mass is also covered by our organist, Lynne Rodriguez. Sunday 9 AM Mass offers a more contemporary style of music directed by Larry Renner (phone: 432-0209). Sunday 11 AM Mass also offers a contemporary style liturgical music facilitated by Deborah McHenry (phone: 222-4695). The Sunday 8 PM Student Mass offers a mix of contemporary and traditional music facilitated by Sheilagh Luna (phone: 277-1384). If you are musically talented and would like to join one of these music groups, please contact them! Remember, “Singing is praying twice!”
Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist assist in the distribution of Communion at Mass and are also commissioned to bring Holy Communion to the sick and homebound. Those interested must be Confirmed and receive appropriate training.
Lectors proclaim the readings with the congregation at weekend liturgies. Lectors must receive appropriate training and are assigned at their Mass of choice.
Ushers and Greeters assist at weekend Masses by exercising hospitality and contributing to the smooth flow of the Mass.
Altar Servers are those young men and women (4th grade and above) who wish to assist the priest at weekend Masses. Altar servers must attend annual training sessions and are assigned at their Mass of choice.
